Target Market

Since every media product has a particular market for whom it is primarily intended for, my team members and I evaluated the target audience for our album as well according to the market segmentation.

Geographic

Primary market: major cities of Pakistan (Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad)

This is because Pakistan is the place of origin of the artist, and so the album will be primarily be promoted here, for instance through local radio and television channels. The target market in Pakistan would be a very niche audience, since this isn't the sort of music that's commonly heard here at all and so it would be a bit challenging to promote the artist here.

The secondary audience would of course be international since music now, especially indie music, is released online on streaming platforms such as YouTube, SoundCloud and Spotify, which have a large global userbase.

Demographic

Primary age group: 15-25

Secondary age group: 25-40

Gender: no specific gender

Social class: Middle and upper class.

Indie music is mostly appreciated by a younger audience as they tend to be more explorative in such aspects. Also, since our album will be in English, which isn't the first language of people in Pakistan, people with a more communicative and educated background would be able to appreciate the music more.

Indie music fans, unlike fans of mainstream music, don't specifically prefer artists for their gender, but more for simply their music. So, we did not set any gender to target our album towards.

Psychographic

Primary: Explorers

Secondary: Strugglers and Reformers

Indie genre music is very nuanced and heavy in terms of its ideology and concept. Indie artists themselves, not being mainstream, are a symbol of breaking away from normative forms of music. Thus, the audience it targets is also primarily the youth who have a broader vision. They understand that indie artists aren't selling themselves like many mainstream idols, but express their true ideology and reflect themselves in their music.

Social Media Page Research & Analysis

For our social media page, we decided to make our artist's account on Instagram. We had several reasons for this, the main one being our target audience. Our artist herself is supposed to be a "zennial" (gen z and millennial cusper) so naturally, our target audience, as also previously discussed during our research phase, is the age group 16-30 (including the secondary target audience). The primary target age group (late teens and early 20s) are significantly more present and active on Instagram. This is also why a majority of artists now, despite having accounts on both platforms, are more active on Instagram because they get greater engagement with their target audience. Secondly, Facebook appears to have a more conservative demographic and is subject to regulation by media watchdogs to a greater extent than Instagram. So considering our video contains a depiction of a lesbian couple, if it happens to fall under the viewership of people with conservative views (which is...

Social Media Page

I made a gmail account for the artist so that we could create an Instagram account for her (because there are already like ten accounts on my personal email). We went with a simple, straightforward username like most artists so that she would be easy to find - hala.says - because for some reason halasays was already taken. I turned it into a professional account so that the Musician/Band label could be seen. Before we posted anything we added "coming soon" to the bio. For our first posts, we wanted an intro to the artist and also establish the image of the artist based on the theme of the album, like Hira points out, using a motif from our album and music video - flowers. After a couple of hours I took inspo from a scene in the music video itself (the shot with two hands reaching for the flowers) and drew a rough sketch of what the layout and posts would look like on an app called Autodesk SketchBook in my phone. I made the final versions on the same app. I opened a new file...

Music Video Final Cut

Since, she has now dropped Media Studies, Hira emailed me the Premiere file of the music video as well as the video itself that she edited on the 9th and then after I had requested some changes, she sent me another version on the 10th. However, due to the fact that she no longer took the subject and hence the bigger communication gap, I decided to make some remaining changes and alterations to the video myself, which included rearranging some clips and adding a different opening scene: After that I colour graded some parts of the footage to add a slight vintage effect, but not too much. I did this by adjusting the "faded film" scale in the Lumetri colours tab, and adding a slight noise effect to some clips. For some clips I downloaded a VHS overlay to get a *drumroll* VHS effect, by placing the overlay on top of the clip and setting the blend mode to "Screen". I felt that this added the lofi, retro handicam effect that we were initially aiming for as well not just b...
