Critical Reflection Essay

My essay of the critical reflection of my work in the Advanced Portfolio will mainly address the following compulsory questions: How do my products represent social groups or issues? How do the elements of my production work together to create a sense of "branding"? How do my products engage with the audience? How did my research inform my products and the way they use or challenge conventions? All of my products in the artist's promotion package - music video, digipak and social media - were all constructed after meticulous planning phases in order to effectively reach the audience. This included great consideration given to the sort of message or concept, and the social group that we wanted to represent through our music video. The song that we chose, "Party Police" is pretty straightforward - the lyrics are about a couple whose relationship is gradually deteriorating, and as we hear from her perspective, one of them is striving to hold it together by any me

Feedback

I received a variety of responses and feedback to my music video, most of them being positive, and some pretty evaluative, and others...you can see for yourself. So while the music video did appeal to a majority of the primary target audience, there was some (expected) resistance to and dislike for the LGBT representation.  The first feedback in particular was quite constructive and helpful (for any future reference).  Overall, it was helpful to see the video from an objective perspective as someone who was 100% heavily invested in every aspect of the planning, production and post production of the project.  conan gray collab when? 😳😝

Instagram Log

After making my post schedule I was conflicted about how to showcase each post on my blog, so I decided that the best way to go about it would be in the form of a log (which is this post) that I would add to my drafts and update after each post or series of posts, and publish it whenever my last post goes up, but before my critical reflection essay, for the sake of maintaining the appearance of posts on my blog. 10th April: After the introductory posts, my first three posts followed the suburb theme.  For the first image, I head out for a walk in my colony with my camera and dragged my brother along to take evidence photos of me.  I took quite a few pictures, some of which I rejected including the swings picture, because even though the image connected really well the music video, the quality just wasn't up to the mark. Another one was decent quality but I felt it would be too repetitive if I posted both this and the headlights one. As for the headlights photo, it took quite a few

Music Video Final Cut

Since, she has now dropped Media Studies, Hira emailed me the Premiere file of the music video as well as the video itself that she edited on the 9th and then after I had requested some changes, she sent me another version on the 10th. However, due to the fact that she no longer took the subject and hence the bigger communication gap, I decided to make some remaining changes and alterations to the video myself, which included rearranging some clips and adding a different opening scene: After that I colour graded some parts of the footage to add a slight vintage effect, but not too much. I did this by adjusting the "faded film" scale in the Lumetri colours tab, and adding a slight noise effect to some clips. For some clips I downloaded a VHS overlay to get a *drumroll* VHS effect, by placing the overlay on top of the clip and setting the blend mode to "Screen". I felt that this added the lofi, retro handicam effect that we were initially aiming for as well not just b

Instagram Post Schedule

Anything requires proper planning, and for planning the Instagram account, our teacher recommended the website notion.so, where I created an account for the artist and planned out the details of what kind of stuff will be posted on the page and the order well. This is the task list that I've made and intend to follow.

Social Media Page

I made a gmail account for the artist so that we could create an Instagram account for her (because there are already like ten accounts on my personal email). We went with a simple, straightforward username like most artists so that she would be easy to find - hala.says - because for some reason halasays was already taken. I turned it into a professional account so that the Musician/Band label could be seen. Before we posted anything we added "coming soon" to the bio. For our first posts, we wanted an intro to the artist and also establish the image of the artist based on the theme of the album, like Hira points out, using a motif from our album and music video - flowers. After a couple of hours I took inspo from a scene in the music video itself (the shot with two hands reaching for the flowers) and drew a rough sketch of what the layout and posts would look like on an app called Autodesk SketchBook in my phone. I made the final versions on the same app. I opened a new file
